RIYADH —
The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has announced the launch of the compulsory licensing service for copyright works.

The service would enable the educational institutions, broadcast authorities to benefit from the compulsory licensing service for copyright works for translation and copying, according to the regulations, conditions and cases that are stipulated in the Copyrights Protection and its Executive Regulation Law.

SAIP noted that the launch of this service coincides with the entry into force of the Berne Convention, which requires that Saudi Arabia benefit from the right stipulated in the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (Provisions for Developing Countries) regarding (restriction of the translation and copying rights).
