There has been growing interest among German companies to explore a wide range of sectors in the Qatari market, industry experts revealed during the digital business delegation event hosted by the German Industry & Commerce Office Qatar (AHK) on Monday.
“Since the beginning of this year, we are seeing an increased interest of German companies in the Qatari market, not only in the sports sector, particularly, but also in other sectors related to the organisation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, such as technology for an innovative fan experience,” AHK representative Kathrin Lemke told Gulf Times.
“During the course of the year, we expect more digital meet ups with German companies from different industries, and we are looking forward to matching them with potential local partners,” she continued.
The online activity showcased the products and services of German companies from the sports, sports equipment, wearable, and furniture sector, and is part of the export promotion programme of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs & Energy.
Until March 25, all companies are available for one-on-one meetings, said Lemke, who added that local companies that are interested in participating in the meetings could reach AHK at [email protected].
Daniel Schemske, deputy ambassador at the German embassy in Qatar, said: “It is very encouraging to see that restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic do not derogate German companies’ interest in doing business with their Qatari partners. And the German Chamber is doing a great job to virtually match business partners from both countries with events like this.”
According to Martina Ziebell, the CEO of Mena Business GmbH, said the German sports industry “is very keen” to become part of Qatar’s sports community, “not only for the runup to the World Cup and the World Cup itself but for all sport events still to come.”
“This German delegation is covering a wide spectrum of sporting goods and related services, such as augmented reality (AR), electric longboards, ‘funsport’ items, and furnishing solutions for event spaces,” she further said.
The participating German companies include Augmania, which specialises on AR for events and marketing; JayKay, whose field of activity is the production of e-trucks and electric longboards. MTS Sportartikel, meanwhile, is into the development, production, and trade of indoor and outdoor sporting goods and toys.
Sport-Thieme specialises in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of products for sports, while sunflex sport, focuses on the production and trade of table tennis and ‘funsport’ items. Wilkhahn manufactures future-proof product solutions for furnishing offices, canteens, lounges, conferences, and team workplaces promoting well-being collaboration, identity, and purpose.
Implementing partners for the digital business delegation include the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs & Energy, AHK, Mena Business, the Association of the German Sporting Goods Industry, and the Confederation of the German Textile and Fashion Industry.
