changes to socius - our wine club
After 5 years of same-old, same-old, we took the time to enhance our wine club. Those enhancements will take effect this coming weekend, Saturday, March 30th. No action is required on your part as a wine club member unless you want to make changes. Here are the highlights of the changes (for a full set of changes, visit the website section or the document below):

  • Quarterly releases, instead of three a year. This was based on your recommendations. You wanted more. You get more.
  • $20 flat ground shipping nationwide for all club levels. Up to a case. $20 rate continues per case, if you want to ship more cases.
  • A New Club - Stand alone or as add-on. Cider Club. Yes, cider. We don't make it but thanks to our new space on Capitol Hill, we are becoming fast experts on cider.
  • Half-priced wine flights all day every day for member + guest. We change our flights all the time. Why not taste them all the time?
  • Complimentary flight for member + guest during birthday month. So, you better make sure you have the birthdate correct on your account.
  • 10% off entire bill at the tasting room and at our new restaurant on Capitol Hill, a/stir. Ton misses you all.
Complimentary release parties, holiday party, library tastings, frequent complimentary invitations to  events, etc.... they all remain as benefits. Your wine club level still applies to all releases, retail purchases, and events like wine dinners and blending experiences.

People always want change but when it happens, they sometimes choke on it. Well, don't worry about these changes. We can clarify things for you, change your level, give you a warm hug, etc. Don't hesitate to ask us questions and talk to us. If you feel, like you are losing your will to live at any moment, there is help. Call 988.

music & drinks pairing, song & drink redux : apr 27

Join us for an exhilarating Music & Drink pairing event! Our vintner, Rich, a devoted live music enthusiast, will craft a playlist of songs and pair each with a drink that complements the mood, lyrics, or essence of the music. Expect a wine, cider, beer, or cocktail to accompany each of the 10 tracks. As we indulge in each song and its paired beverage, discussions about the pairings are highly encouraged!

The theme for this gathering is 'Song & Drink Redux.' Rich will select two distinct renditions of a song and pair them with unique takes on the same beverage. It promises to be a fantastic experience!

If you're hesitant about Rich's musical preferences, rest assured they lean towards alternative pop, rock, folk, and country, with a sprinkle of other genres. Fans of Jenny Lewis, The Head and the Heart, Jason Isbell, The New Pornographers, & U.S. Girls will find much to love at this event. And if these artists are new to you, seize the opportunity to explore fresh tunes! Food and extra drinks will be available for purchase throughout the event.

Not to be missed.

You know what else not to be missed? The picture of the cassette tape sleeve from the music Ton made with his band, WRS when he was 14. Feast your eyes (because you will never hear what's on it).

locus versus Piedmont: may 10
Join us for Locus vs Piedmont. Yes, you are reading that correctly.

We're taking on one of the most storied and vaulted wine regions in the world. We have a Barbera (which Ton hates, by the way).

We don't have a Nebbiolo, but we'll make do. Piedmont also happens to be one of Ton and Rich's favorite regions and he's completely resigned to losing this battle - as long as he gets to try some good nebbiolo along the way. Again, we welcome back Chris Bolla to represent Italy. Who will win? Join us to find out!

Blind tasting as always. With food pairings, of course. Your wine club discount applies at checkout.

cocktails
meanwhile, at a/stir...
Cocktails, cider, beer, full kitchen and.... 10% off your entire bill (for wine club members)? Yes, please.

Now that the kitchen is at full speed, new items are making on the menu. The quintessential Turkish dish, beef suflaki (marinated 24 hours before they go on the grill, to order) over cacık (known as tzatziki in Greek) and olive tapenade goes on the menu on Wednesday, March 27th.

There is a new, vegan tahini-chocolate-coconut milk mousse that Ton recently conjured. New asparagus fries with smoked paprika aioli and a brand new salad with arugula, tomato, corn, toasted sunflower seeds with buttermilk dressing is almost there too. A chicken shawarma salad is on the horizon too.

We have also upped the ante on the activities downstairs. Check out the calendar for something that may appeal to you.
