The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation has stopped issuing permits for the use of unmanned aircraft (drones), to individuals and private entities due to the danger they pose to the movement of aircraft.
An official source told a local Arabic daily that instructions have been issued to all sectors operating at the airport to take precautionary measures on air safety.
The source said according to the DGCA instructions the issuance of permits should be restricted to government agencies only until further notice.
The source added that new procedures are currently being put in to prevent chaos in the use of drones keeping in mind the safety of air traffic.
The source explained arrangements have been made and a mechanism consistent with Kuwaiti aviation safety rules and regulations have been laid down.
The source said whoever operates any drones or similar aircraft without obtaining the necessary licenses and approvals will expose himself to legal accountability.
